Reviews[]

Introduction - 2 pages (56-57)

Game Title Pages Pg No(s) Verdict Summary
Star Wars Battlefront 2 2 58-59 7/10 Shabby conversion, but it's a fine multiplayer shooter, redeemed by the excellent license and variety of fan-pleasing options.
Pursuit Force 2 60-61 8/10 The excitement and relentless action is only slightly dampened by a flawed driving model and sudden difficulty spikes.
Pro Evo Soccer 5 2 62-63 8/10 Technically the best football game on PSP, but let down by cramped controls, limited single player modes and poor camera views.
Metal Gear Ac!d 2 64-65 7/10 Only the Metal Gear faithful will bother mastering the card system in this playable, yet slightyl underwhelming spin-off.
The Lord of the Rings: Tactics 1 66 6/10 Strip away the goodwill generated by the movies and Tactic's flaws are all too evident. Plenty of battles but not much fun.
MediEvil: Resurrection 1 67 7/10 Sure it's just on old PSone game remixed, but it's well-presented slapstick action will keep you chuckling for hours.
Everybody's Golf 1 68 8/10 The game that sticks it to the golf man with far-out attitude, backed up with crazy graphics and truly entertaining gameplay.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories 2 70-71 9/10 A 50-hour story that's just as fun tackled in short bursts. The harder missions are HARD, but this is the game your PSP was born to play.
Ridge Racer 1 72 9/10 Near perfect, and stunning on PSP, this is one of the most expertly judged racers ever made. Anywhere. On any format.
Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix 1 73 8/10 Few games suit quick-dip gameplay better than Hawk's. Longer sessions expose pinch points but Remix simply shines.
Spider-Man 2 1 74 6/10 It's fun the way fireworks are fun - nice flash, plenty of noise but nothing lasts. Just a lightweight adventure with a few good bits.
Mercury 1 75 8/10 Mercury is hugely inventive, demanding and visually distinctive, with yonks of replay value. Roll on Mercury 2...
Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play 1 76 5/10 Wireless play makes us a little more excited than we should be, particularly with Gauntlet on offer, but this is still rather stale.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted 1 78 7/10 Strimming down for PSP means something's got to give. But when a game is so story-based, losing that is the cruellest cut of all.
Colin McRae Rally 2005 Plus 1 79 6/10 Nice looking but hard to handle, Colin McRae Rally 2005 Plus has its moments but is generally just frustrating on PSP.
Lumines 1 80 9/10 Totally unique and mesmerising. The ingenious mix of music and puzzles makes for endless addictive doses of fun.
Ape Academy 1 81 7/10 Over 45 mini-games means you've got dip-in-and-play variety, yet we'd have preferred fewer, better developed challenges.
Virtua Tennis: World Tour 1 82 8/10 Virtua Tennis has always been a great sports series, but its found its spiritual home on PSP. Great animation too.
TOCA Race Driver 2 1 83 8/10 TOCA 2 might not be as accessible as Ridge Racer but it's nearly as brilliant. Solid, responsive play offers hours of replay value.
Wipeout Pure 1 84-85 8/10 It feels like the concentrated feel of racing and packs an immersive sensory overload into your pocket. Quite simply, a PSP must-buy.
Burnout Legends 1 86 8/10 An impressive port of a sizeable chink of Burnout history. Mostly excellent fun and cast iron proof that racers come alive on the PSP.
Go! Sudoku 1 87 6/10 Hate Sudoku puzzles? Then you'll loathe this. But if you're mad for numbers then this is a new way to play. Just like your puzzle book.
SSX On Tour 2 88-89 7/10 Some great bits let down by a mountain-load of dull stuff. Don't blame the PSP though, blame the game's scatter-gun structure.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 1 90 9/10 A miniaturised and PSP-friendly reworking of the world's favourite golf sim. As good as you could possibly imagine.
Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects 1 91 6/10 It's a decent little beat-em-up with imaginative special moves, but when the animations tire, the two-button gameplay will grate.
FIFA 2006 2 92-93 8/10 It's the most complete football package on PSP with solid controls, decent graphics and long-range camera views.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 1 94 7/10 Nothing ground-breaking but it's more than just a cheap cash-in on a household name. Potter on PSP is a pleasant surprise.
Dead to Rights: Reckoning 1 95 6/10 Not even a crim-chewing doggy can hide the fact that this is generic shooty action with a woefully wonky lock-on system.
Crash Tag Team Racing 1 96 7/10 Misleading moniker aside, this is the most enjoyable crash game in a while. Ignore the mediocre races in favour of cartoony exploration.
NBA Street Showdown 1 98 6/10 Although slickly produced, NBA Street Showdown never feels that much fun to play. A definite case of style over substance.
Death Jr. 1 99 4/10 Charmless characters, uninspiring controls and a wonky camera dull this frantic platformer. Would only have been average on PSone.
Frantix 1 100 6/10 Challenging despite some flaws but the lack of multiplayer means it'll always lose out to its WiFi enabled puzzler rivals.
Namco Museum: Battle Collection 1 101 2/10 Playing this retro collection will only make you realise how much the present day rocks. Best left in a museum.

Dynasty Warriors

1 102 7/10 Nothing new here but plenty to enjoy. Providing short bursts of fun, Dynasty Warriors seems entirely at home on PSP.
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition 1 103 7/10 Midnight Club 3 feels like a big game squashed into a small box, leaving you very little room for manoeuvre.
Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower 1 104 6/10 This trip down memory lane underlines the assertion that 3D fighters are just plain better - and we really need a good one for PSP.
Madden NFL 2006 1 105 5/10 Lacking the depth it needs, Madden on PSP is a missed opportunity that'll leave you sobbing over your shoulderpads.
Fired Up 1 106 7/10 Reasonable single-palyer action doesn't make this a must-buy title. But the tremendous multiplayer mode is a real blast.
World Snooker Challenge 2005 1 107 7/10 Whether you play WiFi or solo, this is a sweetly optimised snooker experience for PSP. The analogue cue is a particularly nice touch.
Twisted Metal: Head On 1 108 5/10 Visually stunning, Twisted Metal doesn't perform at all well. Poor button layout and targeting make this surprisingly average.
Smart Bomb 1 109 3/10 Shuld have been an addictive little puzzler, yet it leaves you wondering why you even bothered. Just infuriating.
